Antoninus Pius

Antoninus Pius has made a lot of accomplishments during his 22 years reign. But few remarkable events happened during his reign, this is possibly because of Hadrian’s stewardship.

 

Roman citizens had a feeling of well-being when under the rule of Pius. The Rome Empire were well organized during his reign.

 

Antonnius also built a temple at the north side of the Sacra Via, near the entrance of the Forum. He built this temple in honor of his deified wife, the empress Faustina (who died in A.D. 141)After Antoninus died, the temple was dedicated to both. The temple is well preserved because it was converted into a church in the middle ages.

 

The biggest accomplishments would be the peacefulness and maintenance of the security of Rome under his rule. Antoninus Pius also made investments to upgrade the empire’s schools, roads, expand the aqueducts, public buildings, etc. Pius made no attempts to try and expand the borders of the empire, but had a wall built in Southern Scotland to fortify from other invasions. Antoninus Pius’ reign is thought to be the most peaceful time in the history of the first period of the Roman Empire.
